A gastronomic tour
TROPEA AND MOUNT PORO
A delightful drive through the countryside to Mount Poro which overlooks Tropea at an altitude of between 500 and 700 meters above sea level and is an area rich in agriculture and local food production.
There we will visit the shepherds to see how they make “ricotta” and the famous ewe’s milk “pecorino” cheese, using ancient techniques. Breakfast will be served with the shepherds including different types of cheese, ricotta and other local produce.
Our tour will also take us to Limbadi to visit a local olive press or “frantoio”, in an olive oil production firm and a local winery. Of course, you will be able to taste the very fine extra virgin olive oils and home-made wines.
A stop in Nicotera to savour a local delicacy called “la cremolata” followed by a walk beside the Castle with a view on the Gulf of Gioia Tauro and the Straits of Messina.
Optional lunch can be enjoyed in the historical centre of Tropea based on family recipes.
